Grammar Gallery's Reading Gallery
The Reading Gallery provides students in grades 2-12 with level-appropriate text that integrates the target topics, grammatical forms, and language functions in the Main Gallery. The wide variety of readings and the comprehension questions at the end of each reading help prepare students for success in mainstream classrooms.
It’s easy to access level-appropriate readings. Like the Main Gallery, the Reading Gallery is organized into five language levels that are color coded. The target words in the Main Gallery resource are shown in the level color in the corresponding reading. The amount of language and difficulty of the readings are geared specifically to the needs of the learner based on language level. As the level increases, so does the language complexity.
The Reading Gallery offers a wide variety of reading genres. Students will encounter many different types of fiction and nonfiction in the Reading Gallery, representing both social and academic topics. The following text types are featured in the Reading Gallery:
· Advertisements
· Advice columns
· Blogs
· Brochures
· Editorials
· Emails
· Encyclopedia entries
· Fables, myths, and legends
· Instructions
· Interviews
· Journal entries
· Letters (personal and business)
· Magazine articles
· Newsletters
· Poetry
· Recipes
· Short stories

The readings include questions to assess student learning. The readings and associated questions expose students to the wide range of genres they will encounter in mainstream classrooms and reveal how well students have mastered the content they have been learning. Each reading incorporates the corresponding topic, language function, and grammatical form presented in the Main Gallery. As importantly, the reading passages and questions give students opportunities to practice skills they will be required to demonstrate on standardized tests. The format and structure of the passages and associated questions are modeled after those found on state achievement tests.
