Meet Grammar Gallery's Authors

Grammar Gallery co-authors Roberta Stathis and Patrice Gotsch have worked collaboratively in the development of educational materials for more than a decade. Click here for their full publication list.

Roberta and Patrice, both former teachers of English learners in the U.S. and abroad, have unique backgrounds that combine classroom experience with extensive writing and publishing of instructional and assessment materials. Their special focus on the needs of English language learners and their teachers has resulted in the publication of articles, books, and innovative English language development programs and supplemental materials. Roberta and Patrice are also co-authors of Carousel of IDEAS for K-5 students and Champion of IDEAS for students in grades 6-12.

Connie Casagranda-Williams, Ed.D., California
Connie currently conducts professional development seminars across the country on a range of issues related to ELLs, including English language development (ELD/ESL), sheltered instruction/SDAIE, and bilingual education. She has been an instructor of ELL-related certificate programs in the state of California (CLAD and BCLAD), as well as a professor of university courses designed for future teachers of ELLs. Additionally, Connie has authored and co-authored instructional and assessment materials for teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents of ELLs, including Action Sequence Stories, Quick Informal Assessment (QIA), Pre-IPT in English and Spanish, Go English 2!, and Go Spanish 2! She has written numerous articles that reflect her research in the disciplines of second language instruction, linguistics, and grammar.

Sarah Kang, B.A., Texas

Sarah is a high school English teacher at Manor High School in Manor, TX. She has been teaching since 2007, working mostly with at-risk youth. She received a degree in English at the University of California, Irvine. She holds a certification for P-12 to teach on-level and English learners.

Maria T. Manzanedo
, B.A., California
Maria Manzanedo has been working in the field of education for more than 20 years. She has been a classroom teacher, EL coach, and resource teacher. She's currently teaching at the Alum Rock Union School District in San Jose, California. Maria obtained her liberal studies degree with an emphasis in Bilingual Education from CSU, Stanislaus in California.

Angelique Barrett Manzi
, M.S., Georgia
Angelique has been teaching in Dekalb County, GA for the past 13 years. She holds a certification in P-12 reading and an ESOL endorsement. She currently teaches early intervention reading (K-5) and ESOL at Sagamore Hills Elementary in Atlanta. She has a B.S. in child development and a M.S. in elementary education from Florida State University.

Nikki Mitchell, B.A., California

Nikki has been teaching in Victorville, CA for the past seven years. She currently is a facilitator and art teacher for grades 9-12. She also is a mentor and class advisor. Nikki regularly reviews curriculum and development for her high school. She has a B.A. in human development from Azusa Pacific University, California.

Caryn Sonberg, M.A., Virginia

Caryn is a gifted and talented resource teacher in Fairfax, Virginia. She has taught elementary school for more than 10 years with a focus on second and third grade, and she is the author of three children’s books. She has a B.A. and M.A. in elementary education from the University of Florida.

Jennifer Washer, B.S., Nebraska

Jennifer taught elementary school in Louisiana and Texas for four years before assuming the position of director of children’s ministry at the First United Methodist Church in Commerce, TX. She currently proofreads numerous academic publications in Omaha, Nebraska where she lives with her husband and two daughters.
Roberta Stathis, Ph.D.
Patrice Gotsch, M.A.T.
Roberta holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and social sciences (1975) and a master’s degree in education (1985) from California State University, San Bernardino. She earned her doctorate in education (1989) from the Claremont Graduate University in California. Patrice earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from The George Washington University (1992) in Washington, D.C. and was awarded a master of arts in teaching degree with a specialization in TESOL (1998) from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont.
